Its melody was widely used by many authors of the time as a theme on which to build a work, most of the time, in the theme genre and variations, or &#8220;differences&#8221;, so-called variations in Spain in those years. Its lyrics come from a poem by the Renaissance author Crist\u00f3bal de Castillejo:<\/p>\n<p>Keep the cows for me, Carillejo \/ and kiss you If not, kiss me \/ I will keep them for you<\/p>\n<p>Here are seven &#8220;differences&#8221;, variations, on &#8220;Gu\u00e1rdame las vacas&#8221; (&#8220;Keep me cows&#8221;) by Luys de Narv\u00e1ez<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Gu\u00e1rdame las vacas&#8221; es el t\u00edtulo de una canci\u00f3n an\u00f3nima de un autor muy popular en Espa\u00f1a durante los siglos XV y XVI. Su melod\u00eda fue ampliamente utilizada por muchos autores de la \u00e9poca como un tema sobre el cual construir una obra, la mayor\u00eda de las veces, en el g\u00e9nero del tema y las variaciones, o &#8220;diferencias&#8221;, llamadas variaciones en Espa\u00f1a en esos a\u00f1os.
